Hyperactive, competitive and compulsive, Dale is a promising cyclist. He has come to Waterloo Road to focus on training after having fallen in with the wrong crowd. Dale has moved into the boarding house with strict instructions from his Coach on what to eat and when to eat it. His obsession is with competing against himself, an intense, lonely and solitary battle that has come at the expense of everything –in particular friendships and education. He doesn’t see what use an education is going to be to him because he’s going to become a professional cyclist. However, the problem he’s going to face is that his obsession to become a professional sportsman is tipping over into something else.
